Panettone小故事

Panettone

The origins of panettone are somewhat shrouded in legend, but it is believed to have been created in Milan, Italy, in the early 20th century. According to one story, a young Milanese baker named Toni was working on Christmas Eve when he accidentally burnt the bread he was preparing for his customers. With no other options, he decided to bake a sweet bread using the ingredients he had on hand: eggs, butter, sugar, and candied fruit. The resulting bread was a hit with his customers, who named it after him, "pane di Toni" or "Toni's bread". Over time, the name was shortened to "panettone".

Another story suggests that panettone was created in the court of the Duke of Milan in the 15th century. A nobleman's cook, named Antonio, prepared a sweet bread for the Duke's Christmas banquet. The bread was so popular that the Duke asked for the recipe, and it became a tradition in Milanian homes to prepare panettone for Christmas.

Regardless of its exact origins, panettone became a beloved holiday treat in Italy and eventually spread throughout the world. Today, many bakeries and food companies produce their own versions of panettone, which can vary in quality and flavor. However, the traditional panettone is still made using a long, slow fermentation process and high-quality ingredients such as butter, eggs, and candied fruit
